A hunting knife is designed for dressing and skinning game in the field. A hunting knife will have a slightly curved blade and a straight edge. It is designed for slicing and skinning. Some models will incorporate a gut hook. The blade have to be durable, strong and retain a good edge for a long period of time. All the hunting knives I make hade a blade hardness of 58/59 Rockwell. This ensure you get a strong and durable blade. I use Sandvik 12c27 and N690 Stainless steel. This will provide an excellent long lasting blade.

Handle materials can vary. I prefer to use Dymondwood®. Dymondwood® is a dense epoxy impregnated material made from hardwood. This ensure that is is waterproof, stain and wrap resistant. It comes in various colours.

Other materials can be use like bone, horn, carbon fibre, stone and natural hardwoods.
